The Student Congress Grand Tournament

 

The 2010 NYCFL Congress Grand Tournament will be held at Scarsdale High School on Saturday, February 6th 2010.  The top six contestants will qualify for the NCFL Grand Tournament May 28-30th in Omaha, NE

 

In order to participate at this tournament, your school must have submitted one piece of legislation.  If you missed the bill submission deadline, your school may not compete in the Congress Grand.

Registration:

8:30 to 9:00 a.m. 

** Note earlier than usual starting time **

 

Entries:

Each member school which has met participation requirements may enter up to three (3) contestants at the Congress.

 

Entry Fees:

$6 per student.

 

Awards:

The National qualifiers (top six speakers) will receive a trophy. 

 

Judging:

Each school competing in the contest must provide one qualified adult judge

They must be a college SOPHOMORE or older

They must have judged at least three sessions of Student Congress prior to this tournament

** This policy is different from the rest of the year **

 

Pre-Registration:

You may pre-register in one of two ways:

1)       E-Mail me no later than 9:00 PM on TUESDAY, February 2nd at President@NYCFL.ORG(I will confirm e-mail registration with a one-word “received” reply)

2)       Call me no later than 9:00 PM on TUESDAY, February 2nd at my school number – (914) 632-0714 EXT 351.  (leave all necessary information on my answering machine)

 

Please provide the following information:

1)   Your Name

2)   A Contact Number or E-Mail Address

3)   The School Name

4)   The Number of Congress Entries

5)   The Names of all Congress Entries (I will create placards for all contestants)

6)   The Name of your Qualified Congress Judge

 

Procedures:

We will run two preliminary sessions of approximately 2 hours each, with a lunch break in between.  Then the top twelve (12) will advance to a final 2 hour session.

 

Final Remarks:

·           Each competing school must submit in advance one piece of legislation

·           A copy of your school’s legislation must have been e-mailed to Congress@NYCFL.org by Tuesday, January 26th.

·           Submitted legislation must be typed, double-spaced, with lines numbered, and, at the bottom of the bill, the name of the submitting school.

·           If there is a problem or concern with any of the bills in the Bill Packet, please e-mail Congress@NYCFL.org no later than 3:00PM on Wednesday, January 27th.

·           The Executive Committee of the League will determine bills for the final session.  No school will have authorship privileges for any legislation in the final session.

 

Reminder and Warning:

If I am not in receipt of your school’s legislation by the deadline, your school is not eligible to compete in the Student Congress Grand.

 

 

Also, if your bill for the first part of the 2009 – 2010 season is not paid, then your school will not be eligible to compete in the tournament.
